This is the Help page for the Fraxy Compendium Redux. If you are having trouble dealing with the Redux, then you have come to the right place!

Contents

General Information

The Redux is built upon MediaWiki, the free Wiki software that is the basis of Wikipedia. If you have edited any Wikipedia or Wikia pages, then the code used there will be the same here.

If you are not familiar with standard Wiki coding, then hopefully this page will assist you with the basics.

If you are familiar with HTML, then you can use some in editing. Some examples are the tags <font> and <br>. Also if you type: <font>text</font> you'll get something like this: "text".
You can also just type <font>article</font> to get this: "Main_Page".

Please note that if you want to make use of some of the features of the Wiki, such as the Uploader, you need to join board2. Otherwise, you can upload from different sources such as Rapidshare, however we will not be able to maintain your files directly.

Differences between the Old Compendium and the Redux

First of all, the Old Compendium is based on PBWiki which is a different Wiki format. It is designed to be more professional than other Wikis and is initially free until a memory marker is reached, then it requires money. This is not as maintained since members have migrated to the Redux or went on other ventures.

The Redux, as mentioned before, is based on MediaWiki, which is free and the backbone of Wikipedia. The Redux is also tied to board2, which has a Fraxy area and also has an IRC dedicated to Fraxy, #fraxy.

If you are interested in the history of the Fraxy community and why there was a move, you can view the story on board2.

Noted are the main differences between the Compendiums:

 • Both use different editors for page editing.
 • Both use different uploaders/storage for uploading creations, pictures, etc.
 • The Old Compendium can show pictures connected to it's uploader, as of now the Redux cannot.
 • The Redux allows Wiki text to be edited directly, ultimately having more customization but some added overhead.
 • The Redux is used more than the Old Compendium and is thus updated more.

Starting Up

If you are just starting up, refer to the Tutorial Page or look on your talk page which should have a Welcome explaining some things. Here is the basics on starting up your profile. As a quick run-down, when you joined the Redux, a profile was created for you. Included with this profile is your own personal space that includes three main pages for Bosses, Drones, and Trys. When you click on them for the first time, you will be presented with instructions on editing and posting. Once the page is saved, it will instantly be linked to the List of all (Bosses, Drones, Trys) page as appropriate.

The Editor(s)

Warning: The following section contains information for historical purposes.

The editor(s) on the Redux are different from the one on the Old Compendium. The initial one that is included with the Wiki is inadequte, so instead we recommend you activate the WikEd one.

The editor available currently is called WikEd. Initially, it is not accessible as it is a Gadget, a special add-on for users. In order to enable it, one must click My Preferences at the top near your user name and click the Gadgets tab. There Check WikEd and viola! WikEd is very customizable but it is also very different when compared to the main editor and sometimes it doesn't work properly. If you want to use this one and are having trouble, please look at the WikEd page.

The one that was used before WikEd initially is based on FCKEditor, which looks similar to the one PBWiki uses. However, in order to work properly with MediaWiki, it requires some adjustments and some direct editing may be required in order for links and such to work correctly. On that note, MediaWiki and the creators of FCKEditor worked together and created a hybrid editor called the MediaWiki+FCKeditor Project that is still being worked on. The result is a watered-down FCKEditor that is more friendly for MediaWikis (the current version is based off of FCKEditor version 2.5). We have since gotten rid of this due to incompatibility issues (aka it totally screwed up a lot of things so we trashed it).

Using Your Profile

When you join, not only do you get the personal creation pages but you also get several additional pages and the ability to customize your experience. At the very top of all pages, you will see the following:

Your User Name: My Talk, My Preferences, My Watchlist, My Contributions, Log Out

Here is what each one does:

 • My Talk - This is a personal page linked to your user name. Here you will receive messages from other users. Just like other pages, it is edited in the same manner.
 • My Preferences - This allows you to set many various aspects and personal preferences for your account. It also shows your account information.
 • My Watchlist - Here you can view what pages you have set to watch in the Wiki. Several are set to be watched by default. This is an easy way to view pages you edit constantly. In order to watch a page, click the Watch tab near the top of the page.
 • My Contributions - This page gives a history of all of the pages you edited and when. It also allows you to compare different versions.
 • Log Out - Logs you out. =P

Basic Editing

As mentioned before, you can use Wiki code and some HTML to edit pages directly.

Here are some editing symbols you may experience:

 • <b> </b> - This bolds whatever is in between.
 • - This also bolds whatever is in between.
 • <i> </i> - This italicizes whatever is in between.
 • - This also italicizes whatever is in between.
 • <u> </u> - This underlines the text in between.
 • <big> </big> - Makes the text in between bigger, about font size 16.
 • <br> - Skips to the next line, like pressing Enter.

You can combine them like: <b><i>something</i></b> or else to get combined effects.
To use links, you use [Actual Link(space)Link Title] for external or non-Redux links or Link Title for links to pages on the Redux. If you don't want link titles, use [Actual Link] for external and Actual Link for Redux links.

Due to the incompatibility caused by the hybrid FCKEditor, sometimes the code will appear odd. Here are some examples (ignore the spaces in between symbols). &lt ; is <, &gt ; is >, and &amp ; is & If this has happened, then feel free to fix it. It'll make things much more easier to read when editing.

Using IRC

If you are having trouble getting to the Fraxy channel, look at the IRC Tutorial which should help you get started.

Uploading Your Stuff

There are several avenues one can take to upload your creations to the Wiki. The Wiki's uploader doesn't work unfortunately... so you have to use either the Board2 uploader (to use: register at Board2 and then you can log into the uploader and upload files) or some free upload site, for example Mediafire. For now, the best solution is to use the Board2 uploader as your stuff will be protected by board2.

What is Fraxy written in?

Fraxy was created using a programming language called HSP (Hot Soup Processor) which is boasted as being on level with Game Maker. The language is in Japanese inherently and as of this writing is at stable version 3.2. There used to be an English translation for it, but the posted link is down and one source found only has up to version 2.6. On the main site it is unknown what version Fraxy was written in as it's not listed. If you're curious, here are some links.
