From Fraxy Compendium Redux

Jump to: navigation, search

Welcome to the Fraxy Compendium "Theme of the Month" page! Stuck for an idea? Need inspiration to drive you to make your next creation? Come on in and contribute to this month's creation theme page! And to avoid anger and confusion, look at all the enemies already submitted before starting to work on your own! Originality is the spice!

Important note: You can submit as many entries as you want, but only one will be scored per month. If you do submit multiple entries, please indicate which one you want scored, otherwise none will get judged. Thank you.

Judging criteria

Parameter Description Max Points
Design Part variety, "resourcefulness", does it work correctly, etc. 10
Difficulty (ranks 1, 50, 100) If it's too hard or too easy, the score will be lower. 10
Looks Basically, does it look good? 10
Originality Pretty much, uh, is it an original design or obviously ripped off of "Person X" or whatever. 5
Thematic Relevance How closely the boss stays true to the theme it is submitted for. If the theme is "make a spinning boss" and there is no spinning at all, you would probably get a "0". 5
Fun Category inspired by Bukkarooo. This category is pretty much, "Do I like this boss? Do I think it's fun?" 10
Total/Overall Rather self-explanatory, I'd say. :P 50

So, build what you like. Everything will be judged fairly! :-D

Competitions

For the May-July 2008 Themes, you might be able to find the entries/etc on the old compendium, though I'm not sure. We never ported them over here. --NightKev (sysop) 00:02, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Month/Theme Description
May 2008: Star Wars Our first theme month, our first monthly theme, obvious, straight-forward, and fun. After all, who doesn't love Star Wars? Just remember: The power to destroy a planet pales in comparison to the power of The Force!
June 2008: 5 Parts Spicing things up for our second theme! Entries must only have 5 parts. The core counts as 1 part. Entries will be rated on originality, so use events to their fullest to create something special within the restriction!
July 2008: Fireworks Display A chance to show off your creative skills. Design and build a fireworks display (to be watched in the editor, not fought). Display should last 3 mins at most, and a youtube video synced to music will score higher. Will be scored using the Design, Looks and Originality categories.
August 2008: Final Bosses Make elaborate bosses that would be considered "end bosses" of a SHMUP game. It should be challenging, but not obscenely hard. Remember, fake difficulty is bad.
September/October 2008: Naked Core Create a boss where the only visible part is the core. Creative use of the barrier and its extra parameters (such as arc and size) will be a necessity. Looks can be deceiving.
November 2008: Autumn Leaves Construct a boss related to Autumn/Fall. You'll likely need to use the detach core/event liberally. Examples: a tree with falling leaves, windswept leaves (dodging the incoming leaves, essentially)
No TotM for December 2008 Sorry guys.
January 2009: Fighter Squadron Create a group of small fighters to harass the unsuspecting Fraxy player! Each .fed must contain at least three individual fighters, up to 10 maximum. Your creation must be compatible with Fraxy version 20081118.
February 2009: Indiana Jodes Maze by nutman217(?) Make a maze in which the player has to go in, complete a set of objectives, and get out safely from the maze.
March 2009: Fortress of Doom For this month's contest, create a fortress/space station/whatever. The main structure must be stationary (you can have some small fighters protecting it or something), though it can spin if you like.
April 2009: The Lottery These bosses have triggered events or "chances" that depend on luck and skill to get a desired outcome. Instead of 1 type of attack, there are several that are determined by chance.
May 2009: Breakout! (idea by CTR) "Have you ever played Breakout, Super Breakout, or Arkanoid? Then you get the idea =)" -CTR

Create a boss in which you must destroy part after part in an effort to reach the core.

June/July 2009: El Toro (idea by Boxorak) "Bosses that charge into you. --Boxorak"

Make a boss in which one or more of its attacks is to "throw" parts of itself at you, or to try and ram you. Be careful, though, as it's easy to overdo it when making this type of boss.

August 2009: Enclosure (idea by NightKev) You're trapped within an "arena"/maze/fortress/etc and must escape before it's too late!

Adding your entry

First, go to the current competition page and click the edit button. Now, copy the following: {{Themeentry|image=|link=|author=|name=|desc=}}

Now, do you see that |} at the very bottom of the page? Paste that line so that it's right above the |}, like so:

{| class="wikitable" style="text-align: center;"
! Image !! Download !! Author !! Description
<!-- PLACE ALL {{Themeentry}} TEMPLATES BELOW THIS LINE - IGNORE THE CODE ABOVE - DO NOT MODIFY THIS LINE -->
{{Themeentry|image=|link=|author=|name=|desc=}}
|}

The page may be slghtly different, but ignore the differences and just paste that line above the |}. Now, you'll have to fill in the blanks. Image is a link to an image of the creation, and link is a link to the .fed file. Author is your username. Name is the name of the creation and desc is a description of the creation. You can leave fields blank if you have no image, download link, or description.

Now save the page. You're done!

Adding scores

For judges only. For each boss, you'll have to copy and paste the following text and fill out the information (pretty self-explanatory). Just paste the text on a new row each time. Just edit the results page - you'll figure out what to do.

Boss is the boss name. Design is the design score. Diff is the difficulty score. Looks is the looks score. Origin is the originality/faithfulness score. Fun is the fun score. Don't worry about adding up the scores; the wiki will automatically add up the scores for all five categories and put the total in the rightmost column. Basically, just fill in the scores and the name.

{{Themescores|boss=|design=|diff=|looks=|origin=|fun=}}

Don't forget to add in the judging results later.

Creating TotM pages

  • To create this month's entries page, you will have to manually go to that page, enter the following text, and save the page: {{subst:Template:Themepreload2}}
  • To create this month's results page, click here and save the page. Scores and results can be entered in later after judging.
